Back to Johnstone Strait

The tents

Our camp is located on a point of land over looking Johnstone Strait. Each tent is private and each with an outstanding view over Johnstone Strait. The tents are 4 person North Face tents for 2 people, giving you plenty of space to call home. They are set upon red cedar platforms to ensure you stay comfortable and dry.

The view

There is no question that we have one of the most stunningly beautiful camps on the West Coast of Canada.

It is like an ever changing postcard image.

The shower

Our shower at the base camp was built in 2003 and has since become a star attraction.

The design came from a safari camp John and Christine stayed at while traveling through Africa in 2000.

You simply fill the pail with hot water supplied by the guide. Hoist the pail up over your head, open the tap, and out comes the soothing hot water.

The view from the shower

Our shower has a great view of the ocean and beach.

One day we heard a yell from the shower "whales!!!" That's right, Catherine Day from Iowa was the first to spot a pod of approaching orcas as she was rinsing the soap from her hair.

The toilet

It is not often that a toilet gets so many positive comments from guests. I guess most people feel that going to the toilet in the wild must be an uncomfortable but necessary experience.

Spirit of the West made it a priority to "buck the trend" in outdoor Bio_break comfort.

We built a proper sit down incinerator toilet with a world class view of the ocean. We try to make every experience as enjoyable as possible.

Whales passing by camp

It is not uncommon to have the killer whales swim by our camp. In fact on most of our tours the killer whales make almost daily appearances in front of our bluffs over looking Johnstone Strait. The picture above was taken from outside one of our customers tent.

Getting to camp

Getting to our camp is half the fun.

The "High Flyer" is a custom built catamaran power boat that brings us safely to our camp and back home again. The journey to our camp from Quadra island is approximately 2.5 hrs up the scenic inside passage.

Some of the best wildlife sightings happen while getting to and from our camp.

Your mug

Everyone gets their own mug on arrival, each with its own sea creature name so we know whose is whose.

And yes you get to take it home with you at the end of the trip!
