The black bear The black bear is commonly seen on our Johnstone Strait tours. I have found them to be more abundant along the shores during the months of August and September. What brings them to the beach is the smorgasbord of sea life found under the rocks. The small shore crab seem to be a favorite yet I am sure they will eat just about anything to start fattening up for the approaching Winter.

The sealion Paddling up to a haulout of a 100 sealions barking or growling is a sound that you may never forget. This beautiful specimen on the left was taken near the Spirit of the West base on Quadra Island, but you may see them on your trip in Johnstone Strait as they migrate through to their breading grounds. Early summer and fall are the best times to see them.

The humpback If we are lucky we will get a chance to see a humpback whale or two. They have been making a comeback in the Johnstone Strait area. The Humpback was almost decimated after the whalers got to them but to our delight they are returning in good numbers.

The Orca The Orca is one of the most magnificent animals on earth. Coming across a pod of orcas while sitting in a kayak can be a life changing experience. Wales have taught humans to be more respectful of the marine environment Their intelligence is closer to humans than almost any other animal. Maybe this is why we hold them in such high regard and a symbol human and animal coexisting together.

The seals An almost costant companion while out on the water. Seals can be seen following kayakers for miles. Driven by their curiosity to learn more about human life, the seal can be seen swiming above, below and beside a group of kayakers.
